What is one thing you have always wanted to do? Skydiving? Fly a plane? Run a marathon?

Mine is to go SCUBA diving.

A secret about me is, I love fish. Growing up I had several aquariums. I’m not sure where it started, but what I do know is, I enjoy it.

If I ever get the chance to SCUBA dive, I would love it. However, I believe the moment right before you take a seat on the boat and fall backwards there would be some doubt.

To experience my desire, I would have to overcome doubt by trusting my equipment, and fall. The distance between myself and my dream of SCUBA diving could be traveled with faith – trust in the equipment.

Joshua became the leader of the people of Israel (God’s people-no pressure) after Moses died. Now God was going to lead His people through Joshua to the land He promised them.

Joshua commands the people to follow the Ark of the Covenant in faith. Joshua modeled for the people what it was like to cover the distance from themselves to the promise land with faith.

This was a step of faith.

God gives more instruction to Joshua and confirms the faith and trust that he had. When Joshua hears this from the Lord he immediately goes to the people and encourages them.

He lets them know that their faith was going to become sight! They were going to cross the Jordan River and enter the Promise Land. There was no communication of a plan, just the fact the people were going to cross the river and go to the Promise Land.

As soon as the priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant dipped their feet into the Jordan River the water built up and ceased to flow. The Jordan River became dry where the priests and the Ark of the Covenant were. The priest remained in the dry Jordan River as the nation of Israel cross over.

This was a step of faith.

We usually want the river to be dried up before we get there, but God was calling Joshua and calling us to take a step of faith.

What I mean by this is - we want God to do all the work. We want it to be completely easy and make total sense to act.

That is not how our relationship with God works. Having faith does not excuse us from action.

Faith actually should propel us to take action!

Faith has never been and should never be a “hands off” approach. Our faith should be great, and it should also contain action.

What is God giving you faith in or about that you are not taking action in? Go! Take action upon your faith and see how God works!
